World Cup 2023: Luck is not favoring us, says Mehidy Hasan Miraz after being knocked out of semi-finals race

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has said that luck isn’t favoring Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to knock them out of the semi-finals race in the tournament.

Speaking in the post-match press-conference, Miraz said it’ll be bad for Bangladesh if they can’t qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy, while insisting that luck hasn’t been favoring them. Only the top-8 teams in the World Cup 2023 points table will qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy, with Pakistan gaining direct entry as hosts.

“If we can’t play in the Champions Trophy, it will be bad for all of us. It will be bad for us. See, at the end of the day, luck is not also favoring us. End of the day, we all are trying but we don’t see luck in our game. Everyone is trying, we all are practicing, we are planning but you have to have luck at the end of the day. If you are not lucky, you will never succeed,” said Miraz.

He went on to say that the whole team has been playing badly in the World Cup. Bangladesh has now lost six of their opening seven games in the tournament and occupy the ninth spot in the points table.

“I don’t want to blame anyone. We are all playing badly. We are not getting partnerships from the top order. We are not able to hold it in the middle order. We are not able to finish by the low order. I don’t want to blame anyone specifically. I think we are all playing badly,” Miraz added.

Following their loss against Pakistan, Bangladesh will look to bounce back against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on November 5.
