Mohammed Siraj has claimed that being No.1 in the ICC ODI bowler rankings doesn’t matter to him and his goal is on India winning the World Cup 2023 title.

Siraj has recently ascended back to the top of the ICC ODI bowler rankings on November 8.

Siraj’s rise to the top was fueled by his outstanding performances in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. In eight matches, he managed to take a total of ten wickets while maintaining an impressive economy rate of 5.23.

Earlier this year, Siraj had also shown remarkable form in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. His efforts in these series demonstrated his significant improvement and were instrumental in his climb to the top of the ODI bowler rankings. He took nine wickets against Sri Lanka, becoming the leading wicket-taker for the three-game series. He also claimed a four-wicket haul in the opening match of the recently completed series against New Zealand.

Despite his personal success, Siraj remains focused on the team’s goals. The Indian pacer, while talking to ICC, expressed that his ultimate aim is to help India win the World Cup. He believes that his individual ranking is less important than the team’s overall performance and success. As the tournament progresses, Siraj hopes that the Indian team will continue to deliver strong performances, particularly in the crucial upcoming matches.

“To be honest, I was No.1 for some time in between, then I went down. The number doesn’t matter to me. The goal is that India wins the World Cup. That is the team and my goal.”

“I hope my performance is good for India. This is all that matters.”

“I feel so proud to be part of this team. The involvement and giving such a performance in the World Cup. I am glad to be with this team. All I want is that this team performs well in each match from her. So, very happy with this unit,” said Siraj.
