Australia had won the toss on the day and put India into bat, with Rohit once again tasked with getting the team off to a strong start. The Indian captain was slow by his own standards in the first over scoring just one run.
He would break the shackles in the second over of the match as he hit Josh Hazlewood for two boundaries and taking 10 off the over. Rohit would once again target the Aussie pacer in his second over as he hit a six and four off the final two deliveries to maximize once again.
Rohit would lose his batting partner Shubman Gill cheaply, but would find company from Virat Kohli at the other end. Rohit hit Starc for a six in the same over Gill was dismissed.
The Indian captain would hit Glenn Maxwell for a six and a boundary and was approaching another fifty in the World Cup. However, his stay would be cut short by a blinder from Head. The Indian captain’s attempt to maximize in the powerplay would turn out to be the reason behind his downfall as he skied one in the air.
Head would cover a lot of ground before completing a stunning catch as India lost their second wicket. Rohit had done the job by then as he scored 47 off 31 balls.
