When Bishan Singh Bedi’s advice helped Shane Warne dismiss the mighty Sachin Tendulkar

[ad_1]

Bishan Singh Bedi was one of the greatest bowlers of his generation, if not only for the Indian team. There was a time when the legendary Shane Warne took his advice to dismiss the mighty Sachin Tendulkar.

Bedi had said that fields should not be set for bad bowling. Bedi made the revelations on Gaurav Kapoor’s show ‘Breakfast with Champions’.

“Warne asked me how I would have bowled to Sachin. So my answer was to get him out,” Bedi was quoted as saying.

Bedi said that Warne should keep a short leg, gully and slip while bowling to Tendulkar. Surprised by the advice, Warne said, ‘You are joking.’

Bedi had said that cricket is a mind-game and the fielders for Sachin were to put pressure on the Master Blaster and not to get him out.

“Those fielders are not there to catch, they are there to put pressure on Sachin. Since he is such a great player, he may not have liked the fielders he had. They will say that how did you even think so? You don’t field for bad bowling. You apply fielding to bowl well. Bedi said, ‘And if possible, keep a silly mid-off too. Maybe it was on his mind. He tried this and he got Sachin caught in the street. Warne then waved his hat in the air,” Bedi added.

On Monday, October 23, Bedi breathed his last at the age of 77. Bedi finished his career for India with 273 wickets from 77 matches with 13 four-wicket hauls, 14 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul. As far as Warne is concerned, he passed away last year due to a cardiac arrest while partying with his friends in Thailand.
