The 35th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 took place between Australia and Scotland at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. The contest turned out to be a thriller where the Scottish side made Aussies run for their money. However, in the end, it was Australia who emerged victorious by 5 wickets.
Australia’s win paves way for England
It was a do-or-die contest for Scotland in order to make it to the Super 8 stage of the tournament where Australia had already secured their berth. But the dreams of Scotland qualifying for the next stage was shattered and their loss gave England a sigh of relief as they made it through to the Super 8.
Scotland’s competitive performance
The game between Scotland and Australia had its ebbs and flows as the momentum kept on shifting. After posting a competitive total of 180/5 in 20 overs, Scottish bowlers came up with a high-class show reducing the Australian at 60/3 in 8.2 overs.
Australia’s comeback
Notably, things were looking uncomfortable for the 2021 champions but Marcus Stoinis, with help from Travis Head and later Tim David, turned the game on its head and pulled off a stunning victory for the Aussies.

Mark Watt’s beauty to dismiss Glenn Maxwell
While Australian chase captured all the attention, there were quite a few moments in the game that had its own fun, including Mark Watt’s tremendous bowling and his dismissal of star cricketer Glenn Maxwell. On the second delivery of the ninth over of Australian chase, Watt came round the wicket and dismissed Maxwell with a peach of a delivery.
Watt bowled a good length ball drifted with the angle that drew Maxwell into playing onto the on-side and then spun across the right-handed batter. Maxwell had already closed the face of the bat, it might’ve grazed the outside edge before crashing into the off-stump, leaving the Aussie batter stunned.
