Wasim Akram, Moin Khan And Misbah-ul-Haq Fume Over Umpire’s Call That Saved Tabraiz Shamsi

Former Pakistan cricketers Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq and Moin Khan were not happy with the umpire’s call on Tabraiz Shamsi’s dismissal during the Pakistan and South Africa game in the ICC World Cup 2023. They believed that it was clearly out as the leg stump was visible and said that the umpire’s call should be sorted.

The DRS controversy was a hot topic during the game between Pakistan and South Africa in Chennai. The game went down the wire and during the final stages of the game, the umpire’s decision cost Men in Green the game by the barest of margins. 

Haris Rauf trapped Tabraiz Shamsi in lbw and the umpire termed it not out. Pakistan opted for DRS and it was the umpire’s call in stumps. The Babar Azam’s team was left shattered as had it been given out, they would’ve won the game and ended their losing streak. 

Following this, a lot of controversy erupted in social media as many former cricketers expressed their disappointment over the same. Moin Khan was the latest to join the bandwagon as he fumed over the decision of the umpire. 

Moin Khan pointed out that it was the umpire’s mistake as the leg stump was clearly visible when he was struck on the pads. Speaking on A sports, he explained: 

“It was umpire’s mistake. He (Shamsi) should have been given out. At the point of impact, the leg stump was visible. It was clearly out, and the umpire should’ve raised his finger. It could’ve gone down for referral then. I feel the clipping was shown wrong. The full ball was hitting the leg-stump.”

Wasim Akram also was present in the discussions. He admitted that technology should not be used if it can’t guarantee 100 percent results. He added: 

“That’s why people might not agree with me. Technology is meant to be 100 percent, and it should be that way. With all the information nowadays.” 

Misbah-ul-Haq said that the umpire’s call in DRS should be sorted as soon as possible as there’s no point in having it. He added: 

“Umpire’s call is a big issue that needs to be sorted out. If it shows that it’s out, and the umpire has given it not out, then it should be given out. If you have to stay with the umpire’s decision, then what’s the point.” 

Pakistan suffered four consecutive losses in the ICC World Cup 2023. They are on the verge of elimination and their chances to qualify are very low.
