In the 42nd match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, South Africa emerged victorious against Afghanistan. With that Afghanistan have been officially eliminated from the multi-team tournament.

Azmatullah Omarzai takes Afghanistan to a competitive total

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Afghanistan set a target of 245 runs for the Proteas. Afghanistan’s innings saw a commendable performance from Azmatullah Omarzai, who fell just short of a century with a brilliant 97 off 107 deliveries. However, the South African bowlers, led by Gerald Coetzee with a four-wicket haul, managed to restrict Afghanistan to a total of 244 runs in their allotted 50 overs.
