Trent Boult drops ‘shock’ New Zealand retirement confirmation from…

[ad_1]

New Zealand National Cricket Team star left-arm pacer Trent Boult has dropped a shock retirement confirmation from the T20 World Cups. He also talked about his partnership with Tim Southee over the years.

Trent Boult has been one of the best pacers in the world cricket. The left-arm fast bowler has been sensational for New Zealand in the T20 World Cups over the years. He no doubt has been one of the main reasons behind their success in the big tournaments.

Trent Boult two years ago was released from the central contract of New Zealand as he wanted to play as a freelancer. The fast bowler then played franchise cricket all over the world but returned for the team for the ODI World Cup 2023 and now the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Trent Boult in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 has been decent with the ball. But it hasn’t been a great tournament for New Zealand overall. Kane Williamson’s team has been eliminated from the tournament as they failed to reach the Super 8 stage of the tournament, failing to win games in the league stage.

Trent Boult over the years has been sensational with the ball in the ICC T20 World Cups. The fast bowler has 32 wickets in 17 games for New Zealand an economy rate of 6.07, which is the second-best among the tournament’s top ten all-time wicket-takers.

With Trent Boult confirming that the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 will be his T20I tournament, we might have seen the last of the pacer in the ODI World Cups as well. The next T20 World Cup will take place in 2026 while the next ODI World Cup will be played in 2027. He last featured for the team in 2023 and helped them reach the semi-final.

The New Zealand team is also all set to undergo transition. Most of their players are aging and with the team also facing early exit, there are high chance that some of the fresh faces will get opportunities in the T20I team.

Speaking on behalf of myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup – Trent Boult

Trent Boult while talking about his retirement spoke about his partnership with Tim Southee and claimed that he along his partner have done some incredible things and also revealed that some of the players will be there in the group. He stated:

“Speaking on behalf of myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup.”

“I look at the partnership with Tim with very fond memories. We bowled a lot of overs together. I know the partnership very well, and he’s a very good friend on and off the ground. It was nice to wind back the clock a little bit and see a bit of swing bowling at the top. Some great memories, and hopefully a couple more still to come.  No, I think there are still guys that will be here for some time.”

Trent Boult will be next seen in action when New Zealand play their final T20 World Cup match against Papua New Guinea on Monday.
