T20 World Cup 2024: No disciplinary issues with Shubman Gill, say sources

Contrary to media reports and speculation on social media, there were no disciplinary issues with Shubman Gill. The opening batter and fast bowler Avesh Khan are likely to return to India at the end of the group stage in T20 World Cup in the USA, but it’s not because of any disciplinary issues, a source in the know-how of developments in the USA told India Today.
Speculation was rife on social media that the team management was not happy with Shubman Gill’s conduct during their New York leg of the T20 World Cup. Gill was one of the four reserves for Team India who travelled with the 15-member squad for the major tournament. However, reports of team management not being happy with Shubman Gill are not true, the source has confirmed. There were rumours on social media that Shubman Gill had unfollowed Rohit Sharma on Instagram and that his relationship with the India captain had strained.

More importantly, the team management will take a call on whether they need four travelling reserves for the Super 8s stage of the tournament or release a couple of them ahead of the next round.
Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan were set to depart for India after the end of the group stage while Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed would continue travelling with the 15-man squad to the Caribbean, which will host the Super 8s leg of the T20 World Cup, PTI news agency said.
