Raw emotions unfurled for Shreyas Iyer as KKR lifted the IPL 2024 trophy by defeating SRH. In a video released by the official website of IPL, Iyer described what it meant to be winning an IPL trophy for KKR. The Knights went onto script history as they were crowned as the IPL champions for the 3rd time in the league’s history. KKR thrashed SRH by 8 wickets to win the IPL title at the M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 26, Sunday.
Iyer, while speaking in the video was out of words to describe the feeling as he felt it was an unreal moment.
“The feeling is unbelievable right now. I am not able to digest the fact that we have already won. It doesn’t seem real to be honest. Just want to soak this moment and enjoy with everyone, the family member, the support system who have been there with us throughout. Yeah man, never felt so happy,” Iyer said in the video. IYER JOINS ELITE LIST OF CAPTAINS
Iyer joined the elite list of Indian captains, including MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir and Hardik Pandya to have lifted the IPL trophy. During the post-match presentations as well, Iyer said that the entire camp felt like ‘invincibles’ throughout the season.
The table-toppers KKR played like true champions throughout the season. The Knights finished at the top of the points table with just 3 defeats in 14 matches. They went onto defeat SRH in Qualifier 1 to get a direct ticket to the final. KKR managed to continue the 6-year trend of the team winning Qualifier 1 becoming the eventual winners of the season. Ian Bishop felt that Iyer deserved more credit for the way he led the KKR team in the tournament.
“Shreyas Iyer, I am hearing a lot about Gautam Gambhir, who has created a magnificent culture in the KKR team. But this guy, I don’t think he is getting enough credit. I have said this in the past. They came after me for saying this on social media, but Shreyas Iyer needs some credit,” said legendary Ian Bishop on Sunday, reiterating his stance during commentary in the final.
Iyer exuded confidence while marshalling the troops as he never looked under pressure throughout the IPL 2024. Despite a not-so-great start in the season, Iyer slowly and steadily picked up pace to finish the season with 351 runs in 15 matches.
