Show Some Sportsmanship Yourself – Jaydev Unadkat Blasts Angelo Mathews, Later Deletes Post

[ad_1]

The seasoned India National Cricket Team left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat slammed the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews following his timed-out dismissal controversy in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between the Asian rivals – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6, saw a massive controversy.

Sri Lanka all-rounder was declared timed out after the appeal from Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. After walking onto the pitch, Angelo Mathews asked for a helmet change as the strap of his helmet broke just as he was tightening it around his chin.

Mathews called for a replacement helmet, which was brought in by Chamika Karunaratne, and that was when Shakib Al Hasan appealed for timed-out dismissal. The on-field umpires after a lengthy discussion declared the all-rounder out. They also asked whether Shakib wanted to withdraw his appeal, which he denied.

India National Cricket Team pacer came out in support of Bangladesh amid the controversy. He took to his official X handle to repost a post that mentioned how the on-field umpire Richard Illingworth had informed Angelo Mathews about the timing prior to the problem with his helmet strap.

The post of Jaydev Unadkat garnered the attention of netizens during Sri Lanka’s match against New Zealand. In his post, he slammed the Sri Lanka all-rounder, saying that he should himself show the sportsmanship if he expects the same from others.

“This is why you should always listen to both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions and giving sympathy points. This is a cricket ground and not your backyard where you can laze around. if you expect sportsmanship, show some yourself first (by taking the umpire’s consent to change the equipment and not just wandering off the pitch as if you don’t care),” the Indian pacer said.

After the Mathews incidents, the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and Bangladesh National Cricket Team players avoided the customary post-match handshakes following the conclusion of the game.
