India pacer Jasprit Bumrah was at his exceptional best with the ball in the game against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 game. The Super 8 encounter of the tournament between the teams took place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

After India posted a total of 181 runs on the board, Jasprit Bumrah came up with a superlative effort with the new ball. He drew the first blood for his team when he removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz and made the batter’s statement on Indian bowlers backfire in the game.

Ahead of the game between India and Afghanistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz made a bold statement and said that he doesn’t have Jasprit Bumrah as his only target but he would be looking to take all the bowlers to the cleaners. Speaking to the ICC, he had stated:

“Honestly, my target is not just Jasprit Bumrah. I will look to target all (Indian) bowlers five bowlers generally bowl and I have to tackle them. It’s just a battle against Bumrah. Maybe another bowler could get me out. But yes, If I get a chance to hit him (Bumrah), let’s go for it. It could be Bumrah, Arshdeep or Siraj. If anyone bowls in my area, then I’ll hit them. Either I’ll hit them or I will get out.”

Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood tall on his statement in the first over as he slammed Arshdeep Singh for a six and a four in the first over. But in the very next over, Jasprit Bumrah oozed his class with the ball and sent the batter packing on the second ball that he bowled to him.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a slower ball very wide outside off to which Rahmanullah Gurbaz went chasing after it. He tried to hit the ball out of the park but managed just an outside edge that was caught by the keeper Rishabh Pant with ease.

Here’s the video:

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored just 11 runs off 8 balls. After his wicket, Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got all out for 134 runs as India won the game by 47 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/7, which is the best by an Indian bowler in the T20 World Cup.
