PSL: Colin Munro announces return to Islamabad United hours after riveting 99 not out vs Melbourne Stars

Hours after hitting a match-winning 99* off just 61 balls, Colin Munro announced that he would be returning to Islamabad United for the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League, set to be played in 2024.

Munro gave an official statement through the franchise where he said that he is glad to be back home. The left-hander has played 37 matches for the franchise where he has scored 1091 runs since 2019. Munro is one of the best hitters in franchise cricket and hit 59 sixes for Islamabad United already.

Munro praised the captain and coach duo of the franchise and said that he expects both to take the team to greater heights.

“I am back home. Islamabad United is not just another franchise team for me, deeply value the relationships I have built here over the years. In Shadab Khan, we have a leader who understands the players, who understands the brand of cricket we want to play. With the inclusion of Mike Hesson, I am sure we can reach even greater heights,” Munro said in an official release.

“There was interest in me from other teams, like every season however I have always been clear about representing Islamabad. I guess the red colour suits me. I am very excited to be going back to Pakistan for another exciting season of the Pakistan Super League is one of the toughest competitions, I am looking forward to another challenging season,” Munro concluded.

Before Munro, Islamabad had traded in Imad Wasim ahead of the tournament. Wasim, who retired from international cricket after the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, is one of the best players in PSL history.

On the other hand, the New Zealand batter will be expected to give a blazing start against fast bowlers. On Thursday, Munro was left stranded at 99* in the first innings against Melbourne Stars. Munro’s innings helped Brisbane Heat post a daunting 214-run total, which they succesfuly defending in the opening game of the new BBL season.
