Legendary Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has backed India to become a formidable force on the global football stage by competing in the FIFA World Cup. Kahn visited GD Somani School in Mumbai and interacted with the students on Friday, November 24.
Kahn’s visit comes just days after former Arsenal manager and the current FIFA’s chief of global football development, Arsene Wenger’s three-day tour to inaugurate the AIFF-FIFA Academy in Bhubaneshwar.
Speaking during the interaction in Mumbai, Kahn said India has immense potential in football and would soon be a formidable force on the global football stage. India is currently placed third in their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying group following a 0-3 loss at the hands of Qatar.
“India has immense potential in football. The passion I see here is incredible. It’s time for India to carve its own way of playing football, blending its rich culture with the beautiful game. I genuinely believe that India will soon be a formidable force on the global football stage, competing in the World Cup,” said Kahn.
He went on to stress on the importance of football in his life and the lessons that the sport has taught him through his career. Kahn had a glittering club career as a goalkeeper, winning the UEFA champions league, the UEFA cup, the intercontinental cup, eight national championships and six national cups with Bayern Munich.
“Football is not just a game; it’s a way of life. The challenges I faced in my career taught me the value of persistence. ‘Never give up’ has been my motto in life, and I encourage each one of you to embrace it. Success comes to those who are relentless in their pursuit of excellence,” Kahn added.
Kahn also enjoyed success with Germany, helping them finish as the runners-up at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
