The 15th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 saw SA vs NED being played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The match was curtailed to 43-over per side and it saw the Dutch side pulling the upset and winning the game by 38 runs.
The Netherlands was asked to bat first and they had no answers to the new ball bowling by South Africa pacers. Vikramjit Singh (2) fell early and soon after that Max ODwod (18) was back in the hut. Star all-rounder Bas de Leede (2) couldn’t get going as well and perished early.
Colin Ackerman (13) tried to hold the fort along with Sybrand Engelbrecht (19) but they had no answers to the questions put in by the Proteas bowlers. The Netherlands were tumbling at 114/6 with Teja Nidamanuru (20) also being back and it seemed that they would get out early.
But skipper Scott Edwards (78*) played a magnificent innings and brought his side back into the game. Rudolph van der Merwe (29) and Aryan Dutt (23) hit some blows at the end that powered the Netherlands to a total of 245 runs. Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/56.
South Africa started the chase well as Quinton de Kock (20) and Temba Bavuma (16) added 36 runs for the opening partnership. But after that, they suffered a collapse and were reduced to 44/4 in no time. Heinrich Klaasen (28) played a run-a-ball knock and gave fans some hope but it was only a matter of time.
David Miller (43) kept his side in the hunt but he fell at the crucial juncture of the game. Gerald Coetzee (22) struck some blows in the end but Netherlands bowlers were on the money and kept chipping in at regular intervals. Keshav Maharaj (40) batted well in the end but fell short of a half-century as they were all out for 207. The Netherlands won the game by 38 runs and it was their first win over the Test-playing nation in the World Cup.

After the SA vs NED game, there was a slight change in the lower half of the points table. The Netherlands after the win climbed one spot up and is now No. 9 on the table. Sri Lanka dropped to the last spot and is the only team without points in the World Cup. South Africa despite loss retained the No.3 spot. India is at the No.1 spot in the points table with an NRR of +1.821.
