Marnus Labuschagne Names Bowler Who Won Australia CWC 2023

[ad_1]

Australian cricketer Marnus Labuschagne heaped rich praise on skipper Pat Cummins for his performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 final. Labuschagne said that it was his best day on the field with the ball and that he deserves a lot of credit for the show he put on.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins led from the front in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 and helped his side lift the 6th title. He was one of the main reasons why Indian batters struggled to get going as he bowled impeccable lines and lengths and made run-scoring hard for them.

Pat Cummins was spot on with his bowling and he provided his team with crucial breakthroughs and put India under tremendous pressure. The captain removed Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, which potentially put India on the back foot.

Marnus Labuschagne highlighted the sequence with which Pat Cummins bowled in the final. He said that the way Cummins bowled in the middle overs was exceptional. Speaking to SEN Afternoons, he explained:

“I think that was certainly Pat’s best day with the ball. I think I’ve never seen someone bowl the sequence he did, bowling the right balls at the right time that he did. I haven’t seen that from a middle overs bowler, a pace bowler especially in a long time. A lot of credit has to go to him.”

Thoughts were to have them five down at 30 – Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne further credited head coach Andrew McDonald and team analyst for reading the pitch well. He revealed that they planned to take 5 Indian wickets before 30 overs and they did exactly that.

Marnus Labuschagne lauded Andrew McDonald for creating a good environment inside the team and said that he along with Pat Cummins worked well throughout the tournament. He added:

“Tactically, Andrew McDonald and our analyst really got it right with the toss firstly and then navigating the different scenarios and putting pressure on the Indian bowlers to get those early wickets. Then the thoughts were to have them five down at 30 (overs) and that’s exactly what they did. The bowlers did an excellent job and Pat led from the front there. I mean his coaching record speaks for itself.

“He’s never doubted us, I think he’s created such a good environment, he and Pat work really well together. From a team perspective, we obviously rate him very highly and respect him a lot, his ability as a player and a coach and I think this is the icing on the cake for someone like him.”

Australian bowlers bundled out India for 240 in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After that, they struggled a bit in the start but Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) held the fort and bailed the team out of trouble.
