Lone Warrior! Twitter Reacts As Mahmudullah’s Valiant Effort Goes In Vain As South Africa Beat Bangladesh

[ad_1]

The Bangladesh National Cricket Team veteran all-rounder Mahmudullah showcased sheer class against South Africa National Cricket Team in the 23rd match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They made a change to their playing XI as Lungi Ngidi had a niggle and was replaced by Lizaad Williams. Also, Aiden Markram was leading the side as Temba Bavuma was not fully fit.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, made one change to their playing XI as captain Shakib Al Hasan was back after missing the last fixture and he replaced Towid Hridoy in the team.

Batting first, South Africa lost the early wickets of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen, but Quinton de Kock played a stupendous knock in his 150th ODI and brought the Proteas into a dominant position in the match.

He stitched together an amazing 131 runs in 137 balls with Aiden Markram and then a marvelous 142 runs in 87 balls with Heinrich Klaasen.

Quinton de Kock hit his half-century off 47 balls and then completed his ton off 101 balls. He finished his innings with a score of 174 off 140 balls, with 15 fours and 7 sixes. His innings was a historic one as he created and shattered numerous records.

Other than De Kock, Heinrich Klaasen showcased his brutal hitting and smashed 90 runs off 49 balls and helped his side post 382/5 on the board. Also, Aiden Markram (60) and David Miller (34) chipped in with crucial runs.

Chasing the target, Bangladesh were off to an awful start and they lost half the side for 58 runs. Famed batters Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto were back in the hut and it looked like the Bangla Tigers would face a humiliating defeat.

That was when Mahmudullah came to the rescue and played a sensational innings. He fought like a warrior and put together crucial runs with the lower-order batters to push the Proteas on the back foot and frustrate the South African captain Aiden Markram.

Mahmudullah gave a hard time to the South African bowlers and looked confident despite not getting much support from other batters. He scored 111 runs off 111 balls, with 11 fours and 4 sixes, before getting dismissed in the 46th over.

This was his 3rd ton in the ICC World Cups, but it wasn’t enough for Bangladesh to win as they were bowled out for 233 runs in 46.4 overs. South Africa won the match by 149 runs to make their case strong for World Cup 2023.
