India Capitals bowed out of the Legends League Cricket 2023 after losing to Manipal Tigers by 6 wickets. India Capitals’ skipper Gautam Gambhir finished the tournament with 10 off 5 balls before he was run-out by Amitoze Singh in the third over of the match.

Gambhir, while trying to steal a quick single at cover-point, was undone by Amitoze’s direct throw at the non-striker’s end that cut, Gambhir’s innings short. Gambhir finished the tournament with 144 runs from six matches with two 50+ scores.

Gambhir’s dismissal was notably celebrated by S Sreesanth, who put up a screenshot of the moment when Gambhir was undone by the throw of the fielder. Sreesanth congratulated the fielder, tagging him on his Instagram story, amidst an ongoing feud between the two players.

The former India cricketer alleged via his social media channels that Gambhir had repeatedly called him a fixer. After Sreesanth’s original allegation, his wife Bhuvneshwari Kumari Sreesanth further threw mud at Gambhir, stating that she could not beleive how low the latter would stoop. Things did not end there as Gambhir put up a post himself, seemingly in reaction to Sreesanth’s allegations. An infuriated Sreesanth vented out his frustrations in the comment section of the post and said that ‘even God would not forgive’ the former batter.

“You have exceeded the boundaries of a sportsman and a brother, and above all, you represent the people. Yet, you continue to engage in conflicts with every cricketer. What is the matter with you? All I did was smile and observe, and you labeled me a fixer? Seriously? Are you above the Supreme Court?” Sreesanth had commented on Gautam Gambhir’s post.

Gautam Gambhir stayed mum about the controversy with Sreesanth during the game and only spoke about his team’s performance in the post-match presentation. India Capitals lost to Manipal Tigers comprehensively in Qualifier 2 as they failed to defend 177 runs. For Manipal, Clin de Grandhomme (38*) and Asela Gunaratne (39*) put together an unbeaten partnership to finish the game off in 18.4 overs.
