Kid Imitates Sourav Ganguly’s Iconic Lord’s Celebration At Eden Gardens

A kid at Eden Gardens during the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 between South Africa and Australia made many recall Sourav Ganguly. The young boy in the stands did Ganguly’s iconic celebration of the 2002 Natwest series win. 

The game between South Africa and Australia went down the wire as both teams gave their best. There was a twist in the tale in every phase of the game but in the end, it was the Pat Cummins-led side who held their nerves and won the game by 3 wickets to advance to the final of the tournament. 

During the fag end of the game when Gerald Coetzee bowled Josh Inglis with a pinpoint yorker. It ignited a sense of hope in the South African fans as they were jubilant. However, one kid in the stand caught the attention of many with his celebration. 

He removed his shirt and waved it in joy. He made many recall Sourav Ganguly. The video of his celebration went viral on the internet. Here’s the clip: 

Sourav Ganguly famously took off his shirt on the balcony of Lord’s Cricket Ground after India defeated England in the final of the Natwest series 2002. The Men in Blue chased the target of 326 runs.

Coming to the game between South Africa and Australia, the Pat Cummins-led side emerged victorious by three wickets and will now play India in the final of the tournament. They were asked to field first and they bundled out the Proteas for 212. With the way they bowled in the start, it didn’t seem that South Africa would reach this far but David Miller (101) smashed a staggering century to make sure his team posts a fighting total on the board. 

With the bat, Australia were off to a flying start. David Warner (29) and Travis Head (62) added 60 runs for the opening partnership. But after that, they lost wickets and were under pressure. Steve Smith (30) and Josh Inglis (28) chipped in with valuable knocks but lost wickets at crucial stage. In the end, Pat Cummins (14*) and Mitchell Starc (16*) batted to take the team home.
