T20 World Cup 2024: The New Zealand (NZ) team presented a special signed jersey to Uganda (UGA) at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on June 15 (Saturday) in what was a heartwarming gesture. Kane Williamson, captain of the New Zealand team, gifted his signed jersey to Uganda after the NZ vs UGA Group C match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The Blackcaps congratulated Uganda on their debut in the T20 World Cup after New Zealand secured a 9-wicket victory over Uganda.

Winning the toss New Zealand invited Uganda to bat first. NZ star pacer Trent Boult made things difficult for Uganda straightaway as he nagged two wickets on back-to-back balls in the very first over. From then on there was no respite for Uganda and they were bundled out for 40 runs in 18.4 overs. In reply, New Zealand chased the target in just 5.2 overs losing just one wicket. Following their victory over Uganda, the Blackcaps presented a signed jersey by Kane Williamson to their counterparts.

Uganda finished their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign having registered a win against Papua New Guinea, and having suffered losses to Afghanistan, West Indies and New Zealand. With just one win in four matches, Uganda did not qualify for the Super 8 stage. Similarly, New Zealand also bowed out of the tournament early after defeats to Afghanistan and West Indies. Afghanistan and hosts West Indies progressed to the Super 8 stage from Group C.

“Our guys were good. Was a tough surface. Not a lot of control of ideas and methods. That made a difference. We saw that in the previous match, it has been unique, better to play this way in this match. The teams have been getting more exposure at the highest level, helps to develop as a team. Having that exposure is always a great experience to learn from. Need to train again and play again. The same discussions all again. Have been respectful about the conditions, we’ll rest and play again in a couple of days,” said Kane Williamson at the post-match presentation after the NZ vs UGA match.
