IND vs ENG, World Cup: Report | Highlights
India fielding coach T Dilip’s unique style of naming the ‘best fielder’ after each match has gone viral on the internet. The winner’s name was displayed on the electronic display board at the MCA Stadium in Pune, while the best fielder’s photo was displayed on the spider cam in Dharamsala. Dilip went above and beyond when he arrived in Lucknow to surprise the Indian contingent.
“This medal is merely not about statistics. It’s not about just one good catch or saving some runs. It’s who bring on the spirit on the field. And what that one act you make how much the impact is making on the match. All that is counted and those are the winners,” said Dilip while addressing the players in the dressing room.
After the speech, the fielding coach asked everyone to come onto the balcony. The floodlights at the Ekana stadium slowly went out amid the excitement and cheers, and the LEDs displaying KL Rahul’s jersey in one of the stands shone brightly. The light and sound show has been one of the main attractions at all World Cup grounds, and Dilip made the most of it.
“Here comes our unsung hero contribution. Sometimes things go under the radar but never go unnoticed. KL Rahul,” said Dilip.
Captain Rohit Sharma’s stunning 87-run knock and Suryakumar Yadav’s fighting 49 helped India post a competitive total of 229 for 9 after losing the toss and batting first. The Indian bowlers, however, came to the team’s rescue, bowling out England for 129 in 34.5 overs to secure a 100-run win for the hosts. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with excellent figures of 4 for 22, while Jasprit Bumrah took 3 for 32.
