IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer yearning to bowl for India, reveals physio’s warning after back surgery

[ad_1]

Shreyas Iyer said that he has been longing to bowl for India at the highest level, but also revealed the reasons behind not being able to do. The right-handed underwent a back surgery earlier this year and had to stay out of action for quite some time in international cricket.

The 28-year-old Iyer said that due to his history with injuries, the strength and conditioning coaches haven’t allowed him to bowl.

“I have been longing to bowl, but the strength and conditioning coaches, they are right ‘now you are not going to bowl for some time’. That’s the sad part of it,” Shreyas was quoted as saying on Jio Cinemas after the match.

Shreyas has only bowled 7.3 overs in international cricket and has given away 43 runs. The youngster, however, is yet to pick up a wicket. In first-class, List A and T20 cricket, Shreyas has picked up 10 wickets.

As far as his batting is concerned, Shreyas was impressive in the fifth and final T20I on Sunday, December 3 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

He scored 53 runs off 37 balls with five fours and two sixes while batting at No.3. On the back of his knock, India scored 160 for the loss of eight wickets. In three games, Shreyas scored 65 runs at an average of 21.67.

Shreyas was also decent with his fielding after he took a couple of catches to dismiss Aaron Hardie and Matthew Wade.

Shreyas is now set to travel to South Africa where India will play a T20I, Test and ODI series.
