IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma often praises Tilak Varma as a good cricketing brain, says Abhishek Nayar

Abhishek Nayar said that apart from his batting, fielding and bowling skills, Tilak Varma has excellent leadership skills that could come in handy for Team India in the future. The 21-year-old Tilak is set to play in India’s upcoming T20Is against Australia that gets underway on November 23 with the series opener in Vizag.

Nayar said that Rohit Sharma often praises Tilak Varma for chipping in with useful suggestions while playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“Tilak brings two dimensions of his game to the team. Yes, fielding is a part of it and yes, he can bowl, but what is really important when I say two dimensions are his batting and leadership skills,” Nayar was quoted as saying to Jio Cinemas.

“What you always see with Tilak Varma is fearlessless. He is a young player, but what I have always heard, Rohit Sharma often used to say that he is a great cricketing brain. Because when he plays for MI, he gives good suggestions to Rohit. That part of Tilak is going to be great for Indian cricket,” he added.

Tilak made his international debut earlier this year against the West Indies where he scored 173 runs from five matches at an average of 57.67 with a top score of 51.

He also scored an unbeaten 26-ball 55 against Bangladesh in the Asian Games 2023 that took place in Hangzhou. In 10 T20Is thus far, the southpaw has scored 231 runs at an average of 38.50. The Young Turk also has 740 runs in the IPL to his name from 25 matches with a top score of 84.
