Australia had put up a strong total of 208/3, thanks to a remarkable century by Josh Inglis, who scored a 50-ball 110. In response, India’s chase was bolstered by significant contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a rapid 80 off 42 balls, and Ishan Kishan, who made a valuable 58 off 39 balls.
Rinku, who came in as the finisher for the Indian T20 team, showcased his skills under pressure. Coming in towards the end of the innings, he remained not out, scoring 22 runs off just 14 balls. The UP batter’s calmness was required in the very end of the innings as wickets started to tumble in the final over including two run-outs.
With the pressure at an all-time high, Rinku struck a six off the final ball of the match. However, this last-ball six was not counted towards India’s total score as it was a no-ball from Sean Abbott. Regardless, Rinku got India over the finishing line with two wickets to spare.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar went on to praise the players for keeping their nerves in the end and had a special mention reserved for Rinku. The stand-in skipper said that it was a tailor-made situation for the southpaw and he was calm and collected in the situation.
Suryakumar also said that Rinku calmed him down a bit as well with his batting and also praised his bowlers for pulling things towards the back of the Australian innings.
Was great to see how the boys kept their nerves. Was great to see Rinku, the situation was tailor-made for him. He was calm and collected, calmed me down a little bit. Incredible achievement from the bowlers to restrict them to this total after the 16th over.
