Anushka Sharma was not able to believe her husband’s luck. The Bengaluru crowd erupted in joy. There was double delight for the Bengaluru crowd on Diwali as Virat Kohli, the local favourite, hit a fifty and then picked up a wicket in India’s last league game of World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands.
Virat Kohli got his maiden World Cup wicket with a harmless delivery down the leg side, getting Netherlands captain Scott Edwards out caught behind. KL Rahul came up with a sharp catch, leaving the Bengaluru crowd in splits. The television cameras captured Kohli’s wife Anushka’s reaction as the Bollywood superstar burst out in laughter.
Virat Kohli picked up a wicket in ODI cricket for the first time in 9 years. He bowled 3 overs against the Netherlands on Sunday. In fact, at the start of Netherlands’ steep chase of 411, a section of fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium were seen chanting ‘Kohli ko bowling do’. When Rohit Sharma obliged, the wicket was taken!
As it turned out, former England captain Michael Vaughan, who has been taking funny digs at former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, had another go at him, saying he was not alone.
Notably, Kohli had dismissed Hafeez in a T20 World Cup match in 2012 between India and Pakistan. Vaughan had trolled Hafeez, saying he was criticising Kohli for his World Cup knocks because the india star had gotten him out in the past.
Notably, Hafeez had called Kohli selfish after the former India captain got to his 49th ODI hundred against South Africa in Kolkata last Sunday, helping raise a few eyebrows.
Virat Kohli hit 51, but missed out on an opportunity to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record with his 50th ODI hundred. However, he gave the Bengaluru crowd a lot of joy, bowling 3 overs.
Kohli ended the league stage as the highest run-getter as he took his tally to 594 runs in 9 matches. India posted 410 on the board after hundreds from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
