Faf Du Plessis Hints His International Return; Says He Might Return For T20 World Cup 2024


Veteran Proteas batter Faf du Plessis hinted about his possible return to international cricket. He said that Cricket South Africa is figuring out the balance and he might return to the team for the T20 World Cup 2024.

It’s been a while since we have seen Faf du Plessis in the Proteas color. He played for South Africa last in the T20I against England in 2020. He called time on his career in Tests, mentioning that he would be playing for the team in white-ball format.

However, it seemed that Faf du Plessis’ Test retirement didn’t go well with CSA as they overlooked him and didn’t give him a single opportunity despite him being a big player. Since then he has been playing like a freelancer in various leagues across the world and what’s admiring is that he’s scoring runs in every corner of the world.

Since the last few months, there have been a lot of talks about his comeback in the South Africa team. Faf du Plessis is in constant talks with CSA and with T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner, his comeback might be a reality.

Faf du Plessis himself mentioned that he can return to international cricket as he has been in talks with South Africa coach Rob Walter. Speaking during the Abu Dhabi T10 League, he said (as quoted by India Today):

“I believe that I can return to international cricket as well. We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It’s just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It’s certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach. Watch this space.”

Even at the age of 39, Faf du Plessis is one of the fittest cricketers in the world. The amount of hard work he puts is unmatchable and it’s fair to say that he’s even fitter than some of the youngsters.

Faf du Plessis talked about the hard work he puts in and said that he wants to play as long as possible. He added:

“I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world.”

Faf du Plessis has played 50 T20Is for South Africa and has scored 1528 runs at a strike rate of over 134. Him returning to the South African side will be a big boost for the team.
