Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has brutally taken a sly dig at the Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team after their shocking exit from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. It was the third time in the history of the T20 World Cup that Pakistan was out in the first round.

The legendary Pakistani pacer congratulated the USA cricket team on their historic qualification for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 after their last Group A against Ireland washed out in Florida, which knocked the Men in Green out of the tournament.

Wasim Akram taunts Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 exit, hails USA’s Super 8 qualification

Praising the USA for their remarkable achievement and contribution to the globalization of cricket, Akram stressed that their spot in the Super Eights of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 was well-deserved, especially after their historic win over Pakistan in the group stage.

However, Akram had contrasting words for the Pakistan team, as the legendary pacer sharply delivered his blunt assessment of their lackluster T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Taking a dig at the Pakistan team, he revealed plans for the players.

He said that the Pakistan team would take the flight to Dubai and then to their respective cities, expressing broader frustrations felt by fans and the whole nation over their embarrassing performance and inability to advance in the tournament.

Wasim Akram said in a video posted by the ICC on their social media handle: “Yeah, absolutely. And congratulations to Team USA. They’ve done amazingly well when you talk about the globalization of the game. This is it USA qualifying for Super Eights. They deserve to be there. They had beaten Pakistan in the round match. So, they are there. For Pakistan was the plan EK 601 to Dubai and then to the respective cities. And then we see what happens from there onwards.”

Wasim Akram urged PCB to take strict action after poor T20 World Cup 2024 campaign

Earlier, Akram called for massive changes in the Pakistani side after the 2024 T20 World Cup. He urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to overhaul the team, build a new squad regardless of instant results with them, and back them.

The former Pakistan captain had expressed his frustration over the team’s embarrassing performance in the tournament and urged PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to implement bold reforms, calling for the inclusion of six to seven new players in the team to develop a strong team.

Notably, Pakistan was depending on their win over Ireland in their last Group A game to stay in contention to qualify for the Super-8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, having sat in the third spot in the points table with two points from three matches in the tournament.

However, the USA versus Ireland matches washed out at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, which allowed the co-hosts to finish their group-stage campaign with five points, taking a lead over Pakistan to qualify for the Super-8 stage of the mega ICC event.
