Chris Woakes Fumes At Adil Rashid For Not Attempting Catch

Chris Woakes wasn’t happy with the effort put in by Adil Rashid during match 29 of the ICC World Cup 2023. India and England are crossing swords with each other in their 6th game of the tournament at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

England bowled exceptionally well in the game against India. Chris Woakes in particular looked in great touch and bowled some impeccable lines and lengths that troubled the batters. He was quite charged up in the field and didn’t like the effort of his teammate.

During the first ball  of the 48th over, Chris Woakes bowled an off-speed short of a length ball. Jasprit Bumrah closed the face of the bat early and got a leading edge. The ball fell short of Adil Rashid at third man. He also didn’t attempt the catch and had he put in the dive, he might have plucked a catch.

Chris Woakes fumed at him for not attempting the catch. He gestured something with his fingers pointing towards his eyes. Here’s the video of him getting angry at Adil Rashid.

Coming to the match, Chris Woakes bowled quite well. He returned with the figures of 2/33 and also bowled one maiden. Apart from him, David Willey picked three wickets whereas Adil Rashid and Mark Wood chipped in as well as England restricted India to 229 runs.

IND vs ENG: It was nice to get back in rhythm – Chris Woakes on his performance

Chris Woakes talked about his performance in the game and said that he felt good after getting back in rhythm. He admitted that he was frustrated with his performances in the last few games but he was delighted to hit the right areas. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

“Nice to do well with the new ball. It was nice to get back in rhythm, we bowled in the right areas today. Picking up wickets is always nice, we put them under pressure early on. I missed my lengths earlier in the tournament, was a bit frustrating, but I hit the right areas today. The fielders backed up the bowlers and that set the tone for us. It’s two paced with the new ball. Hopefully the conditions get better under lights. It’s a good Indian side, hopefully we bat well and chase it down.”

England would be optimistic about chasing the target. A loss here would hamper things for them further in the tournament.
