Mohammed Siraj came up with an early contender for the catch of the T20 World Cup 2024 during India’s Group A game against the USA on Wednesday, June 12. Siraj took a stunning catch along the boundary line to dismiss USA’s Nitish Kumar in the 15th over of the contest. It was a crucial catch as it helped Arshdeep Singh end Nitish’s innings that was looking dangerous on the much-talked-about Nassau County Cricket Ground pitch in New York.

Arhsdeep Singh returned to bowl the second spell and he delivered immediately, removing Nitish Kumar who was batting on 27 from 22 balls. Arshdeep tested Nitish with a short ball and the USA batter pulled it toward the deep square-leg boundary. Initially, the ball appeared like it would sail into the stands. However, Mohammed Siraj judged the trajectory perfectly before holding onto the catch.
In fact, Mohammed Siraj had stationed himself a couple of yards inside the boundary line, but he traced back in time and took a catch after which he fell back. Siraj made sure he did not touch the role, controlling the momentum after he held onto the catch.
Arshdeep Singh’s strike ended a partnership that was giving wings to the USA innings after they were reeling at 42 for 3 at the end of 10 overs. Nitish Kumar hit a six and 2 boundaries as he tried to push the scoring rate up.
