All You Need to know about the IPL Trade: Rules, deadlines and player changes

[ad_1]

The Indian Premier League auction is set to take place inside a month’s time. Ahead of the 2024 season of the tournament, teams have already started their rebuild, much ahead of the auction date. The rebuild has been facilitated by the ‘IPL Trade Window’ that allows the franchises to either swap players between themselves or buy players for an all-cash deal. This also affects the team purses as the price point of buying and then later on selling the players could be different.

Here’s everything you need to know about the IPL trade window

IPL 2024 Trade Window Rules

Franchises can either swap players between each other or buy players in an all cash deal

IPL governing council will reserve the right to give final approval for the trade

If there are multiple franchises looking to sign one particular player, the franchise that is selling the player reserves the right to choose the team his player goes to.

Player consent in mandatory ahead of trading or transferring of the said player.

Franchises are not permitted to trade ‘icon’ players.

IPL Trade Deadline

The teams will need to put in their retention list by 26 November. That will also be the final day for player trades. The retention list and the trade list will decide the final purse of teams in the franchise.

IPL 2024: Full List of Players Traded so Far

Romario Shepherd (INR 50 lakh) – Traded to Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants

Devdutt Padikkal (INR 7.5 crore) – Traded to Lucknow Super Giants from Rajasthan Royals

Avesh Khan (INR 10 crore) – Traded to Rajasthan Royals from Lucknow Super Giants

Hardik Pandya to MI?

It has been reported in the Indian media that Hardik Pandya could make a sensational comeback to his home team in the Indian Premier League 2024 season. For that to happen Mumbai Indians will have to offload several big names, including (possibly) Jofra Archer, who has been injury-prone in recent years.

It is unlikely that Hardik Pandya (INR 16 crore) will be able to fit in Mumbai Indians’ budget, but as they say – never say never.

IPL Auction

The Indian Premier League auction is set to be held in December 19. PTI reported that the auction could be held outside of India for the first. Dubai has been floated as one of the front-runners to host the auction, which will see several stars in the auction pool to be picked by the 10 franchise in lucrative deals.
