Abhishek Sharma vs Riyan Parag! Best uncapped player of IPL 2024 crowned by Simon Doull, Michael Vaughan, and other experts
[ad_1]
Abhishek Sharma is the name that almost every expert analyst picked from the Cricbuzz team when they were asked to choose the Best Uncapped Indian of IPL 2024.
Abhishek Sharma had a tremendous IPL 2024 campaign wherein he experienced his best-ever Indian Premier League season. The left-hand batter’s pairing with Travis Head at the top order of Sunrisers Hyderabad was simply sensational. The two players well and truly displayed what T20 cricket will look like in the years to come.
Despite not scoring a single half-century, Abhishek Sharma ended up with 484 runs runs from 16 matches. Although he would have expected to come out with a better performance in the knock-outs but the season will be remembered for his aggressive approach regardless. The taste of the IPL 2024 title would have tasted sweet but if he keeps playing the way he did, the title won’t be far.
Simon Doull picks Abhishek Sharma
Simon Doull was the first expert to choose his Uncapped Indian player of the season in IPL 2024. He picked Abhishek Sharma as the batter all because of his batting prowess on top of the order. Even though Doull wanted to see Abhishek score more half-centuries but he was satisfied with the 400+ season he had at a strike rate of more than 200.
“A few choices but I’m gonna go with Abhishek Sharma. The way he played at the top of the order, I probably would’ve wanted more fifties in the season but when you are hitting over 400 runs at a strike rate in excess of 200. To me that sets the tone I think Abhishek Sharma’s season gets him the nod for the uncapped Indian player of the season,” Simon Doull said via Cricbuzz.
Michael Vaughan also picks Abhishek
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also went with Abhishek Sharma for the best Uncapped Indian of the season. Vaughan did mention Riyan Parag’s name but he eventually settled with the Sunrisers opener. The former batter felt that Abhishek and Travis Head had lit up the season with their extraordinary batting.
“I’ve got two to mention – Riyan Parag from Rajasthan Royals. He’s been so consistent, a wonderful young batsman. But I have to say, Abhishek Sharma. Striking at over 200 for the Sunrisers, that combination with Travis Head lit up the top order. He has been a revelation,” Vaughan said.
Rohan Gavaskar and Manoj Tiwary hails Abhishek Sharma’s fearless batting
Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan Gavaskar also named Abhishek Sharma as the Uncapped player of the season. He hailed the batter for his fearless batting and also credited Head for redefining the face of T20 cricket and how it’s played.
“My uncapped player of the season has been Abhishek Sharma. The way he has batted throughout the season, fearless batting and I think he and Travis Head have redefined how one should bat in T20 cricket,” Rohan Gavaskar said.
Last but not least Manoj Tiwary also agreed with Abhishek’s name. Tiwary claimed that the batter has really set a template for other openers and that this is how one should bat in T20s.
“The way he has batted – he has set a template for himself and others that this is how openers should play T20 cricket,” Manoj Tiwary said.
