Virat Kohli’s Recent Rut in T20 World Cup 2024 Doesn’t Concern India’s Batting Coach

[ad_1]

India (IND) have comfortably seen themselves through to the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Led by Rohit Sharma, India look like a settled unit. However, star batter Virat Kohli’s form in this tournament is one concern that the team might be worried about. Despite being the highest run-scorer in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), Kohli has had a dry spell so far, scoring 1, 4 and 0 against Ireland, Pakistan and USA, respectively. However, it is not a major concern according to India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour, who remains determined in Kohli’s abilities.

India defeated Ireland, Pakistan, co-hosts USA in their matches of the Group Stage, with the game against Canada being abandoned due to rain.  After the IND vs CAN match, Vikram Rathour expressed confidence in Virat Kohli’s performance, dismissing concerns about his recent low scores. He emphasised that Kohli has been batting superbly since the IPL, and a few dismissals in the T20 World Cup don’t change that.

“I love it when every time I come there is a question about Virat Kohli, whether he is doing well or not. No concern at all, no concern at all. He (Kohli) has been batting superbly from the tournament that he came from (IPL). Couple of dismissals here, doesn’t change anything, he is batting really well,” Rathour was quoted as saying by PTI.

Kohli’s Hunger Signals Strong Upcoming Performances, Says Rathour

Rathour noted that Kohli’s hunger and eagerness to perform are positive signs, indicating he’s in a good mindset as a batsman. He expressed anticipation for strong performances and impressive innings from Kohli in the upcoming games.

“Actually, it’s good that he is a little hungrier, he is really keen to do well and really switched on. It’s a good space to be as a batsman, I think. Looking forward to some good games and we’ve watched some good innings from him,” he mentioned.”

India are next slated to lock horns against Afghanistan in their first match of the Super 8 stage. The IND vs AFG match will take place at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on June 20.
