Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan was trolled after the team’s defeat against England in the 4th T20I match. Playing at the Kennington Oval, Pakistan lost the fourth and the final T20I match of the series by 7 wickets on Thursday, 30 May. Azam Khan scored a duck in the game and also dropped a sitter behind the wickets.

Azam was trolled on social media for his poor fitness, something that he has been targeted for a while now. The attack emerged after Azam Khan was dismissed by Mark Wood with a fierce bouncer. Azam failed to move away from the trajectory of the ball, which hit his glove, then his shoulder and popped up in the air only for Jos Buttler to take a simple catch.

Things went from bad to worse for the batter after he dropped a sitter off Haris Rauf who reacted in agitation after the dropped catch.

Pakistan have been criticised for their match fitness earlier. Azam Khan was one of the prime focuses from Pakistan’s recent training camp at Abbottabad. The Pakistan team were tested through a variety of traditional exercises that the army goes through on a timely basis. The PCB showed glimpses of the training camp on their social media accounts where the players have been seen doing a range of activities – from stone lifting to rope climbing.

Back in February 2024, the former Pakistan director of cricket had hit out against the national team. Speaking on Pakistani sports channel – A Sports – Hafeez had said that the Pakistan players did not have the fitness standard to play international cricket.

Hafeez was recently let go from the position of director of cricket after Pakistan were hammered 4-1 in the New Zealand T20I series. Hafeez had a contract of four years with the Pakistan team but it was cut abruptly by the cricket board. A furious Hafeez had taken to Twitter to show his discontent and had said that he would reveal factors behind Pakistan’s poor performance in international cricket.
