England won’t change approach after World Cup 2023 debacle: Ben Duckett

[ad_1]

Ben Duckett said that there’s no need for England to change their approach after their poor showing in World Cup 2023. The Brits, led by Jos Buttler, struggled throughout the mega event on Indian soil and became one of the first teams to get knocked out of the competition.

“I don’t think there’s going to be a new approach because of how the World Cup went. If they won that World Cup, the same group of players might have been here,” Duckett was quoted as saying in The Guardian.

“They had guys who were potentially in their late 30s and coming towards the end of their 50-over careers, so it seemed like there was always going to be a fresh start after it. We’re just a group of players who can go and showcase what we can do,” he stated.

England started their campaign with a heavy defeat in their opening match against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although they made a comeback with a win over Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh, their campaign hardly took off.

England finished seventh in the table with six points and a net run rate of -0.572. Duckett, who has been a regular part of their Test setup over the last couple of years, said that watching England struggle in the World Cup was not easy for him.

“I watched every England game and it was tough to watch at times. I’m watching mates go out there and struggle. It was really difficult. I was playing with them a few weeks before, so it was tough. But we have watched how England have played over the past eight years and one bad five weeks does not define a team,” Duckett added.

After the World Cup, England are set to resume national duties with the tour of the West Indies. Three ODIs will be followed by five T20Is. Duckett is a part of both the ODI and T20I squads.
