India vs Australia: Suryakumar Yadav eyes Babar Azam, Virat Kohli’s records in T20I series

Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of becoming the fastest batter to score 2000 runs in T20Is. The right-handed batter needs 159 runs from his next innings to break the record. Even if he scores those many runs in his next two innings, he will equal Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as the joint-fastest to the milestone in 52 innings.
If Suryakumar scores 159 in his next five matches, he will break Virat Kohli’s record of the fastest Indian to 2000 runs in T20Is. Currently, the 33-year-old has 1841 runs to his name from 50 innings at an average of 46.02 and a strike-rate of 172.70 with three hundreds and 15 fifties to his name.
Suryakumar is currently the No.1 ranked batter in T20Is. The middle-order batter was named as the skipper for India’s upcoming T20I series against Australia in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who has been rested following the World Cup 2023 campaign at home.
Suryakumar played three matches in the World Cup where he only scored 21 runs from three matches at an average of 10.50. In the final against the Aussies on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he scored 18 runs before Josh Hazlewood accounted for his wicket.
In 263 T20 matches, Suryakumar has notched 6669 runs at an average of 35.28 and a strike-rate of 151.56 with four hundreds and 44 fifties to his name with a top score of 117.
India’s first T20I against Australia is on Thursday, November 23 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
