World Cup 2023: Dinesh Karthik questions Temba Bavuma’s captaincy against India in Kolkata

Veteran India wicket-keeping batter Dinesh Karthik questioned South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma’s captaincy, saying he’s been very defensive against India in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Karthik took to social media platform ‘X’, Karthik said Bavuma has been very defensive in his field placements, adding that his lack of experience on slow pitches in showing. India is aiming to register its eighth win in the ongoing ODI World Cup.
“This is not great captaincy from Temba Bavuma. Been very defensive in field placements and hence it’s been much easier for @ShreyasIyer15 and @imVkohli who have batted really clever so far. The lack of experience on slow pitches showing,” Karthik posted on ‘X’.
After getting India off to a fast start, skipper Rohit Sharma departed in the sixth over, falling at the hands of pacer Kagiso Rabada. Shubman Gill became the next Indian batter to walk back to the pavilion after being undone by a brilliant delivery from Keshav Maharaj.
Following the two dismissals, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer stitched a crucial 100-run plus partnership to put India in the driver’s seat in Kolkata.
India, who sit atop the World Cup 2023 points table with 14 points from the opening seven matches, are facing the Proteas, who have amassed 12 points from seven games. India has defeated Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup.
Meanwhile, South Africa has taken down Sri Lanka, Australia, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand while suffering their only defeat of the tournament, at the hands of the Netherlands.
Despite being second on the points table, South Africa have the best net run-rate in the tournament. South Africa boast a net run-rate of +2.290, while India have a net run-rate of +2.102.
