WATCH | Pat Cummins matches Bret Lee’s record with hat-trick against Bangladesh
[ad_1]
Australian pacer Pat Cummins made a name in the history books by taking the first hat-trick of T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, Cummins is only the second Aussie bowler after Bret Lee to take a hat-trick during a T20 World Cup clash.
The veteran Aussie pacer achieved this feat during the Super 8 clash between Bangladesh and Australia on Friday. The 3 wickets by Cummins came at a crucial stage in the game and ensured that Bangladesh did not cross the 150-run mark.
Cummins took the first two wickets in the last two deliveries of the 18th over, while his last scalp came on the first ball of the 20th over. Prior to Cummins, the six bowlers who had managed to get a hat-trick in the T20 World Cups included Bret Lee (2007), Curtis Campher (2021), Wanindu Hasaranga (2021), Kagiso Rabada (2021), Karthik Meiyappan (2022), and Josh Little (2022).
The chain of events began during the 18th over of the match when Mahmudullah (2) tried to pull a shorter delivery from Cummins towards the on-side but the ball hit the inside half of his bat and jumped right into the stumps. On the next ball, Mahedi Hasan timed the ball a little too well, leading it to carry into the hands of Adam Zampa at third man. A well Towhid Hridoy (40) became Cummins’ last scalp of the match when he tried to play the lap shot for a boundary but the ball instead carried to the fielder at fine leg.
