The reason behind Virat Kohli’s absence from the first batch of Indian players departing for the USA has been revealed as there is some delay with his paperwork. Kohli, along with Rohit Sharma and some of the others stars were expected to fly out from Mumbai on Saturday, May 25. They were expected to head to Dubai before leaving for the USA.
The players arrived in Mumbai on Saturday, but Kohli was a major name that was missing in the group. The likes of Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja and others were spotted along with head coach Rahul Dravid and the support staff. It has now been revealed that Kohli will be flying out to the USA on May 30, Thursday. This means he could be a doubt for the clash against Bangladesh in the warm-up game before the tournament starts.
Apart from Kohli, vice-captain Hardik Pandya is also not with the first batch of players. Hardik is in London at the moment and is expected to join the team directly from theire. India will start their campaign on June 4 against Ireland before taking Pakistan, 5 days later in New York.
Kohli’s form heading into T20 World Cup 2024
Kohli has been in stunning form heading into the T20 World Cup as he enjoyed a prolific campaign in the IPL 2024 season. Kohli is currently the holder of the Orange Cap with 741 runs in 15 matches with an average of 61.75 and a strike-rate of more than 153.
This was Kohli’s second best season in his IPL 2024 career as he silenced the critics, who had questioned his strike-rate. The Indian star played a crucial role in helping RCB enjoy a second half revival and reach the playoffs of the campaign.
Their run would come to an end in the Eliminator as they lost to RR and was eliminated.
