USA all-rounder Corey Anderson revealed that he has a soft-spot for India ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the two sides facing off against each other in the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 12. Anderson recalled the days when both him an Bumrah played for the same side in MI in the Indian Premier League, and also heaped praise on the journey of the India pacer from being a youngster to being one of the best bowlers in the world. Despite walking into the tournament as the clear underdogs, the USA side has impressed cricket fans immensely after winning both of their Group A matches against Canada and Pakistan respectively.
The clash between India and the USA has garnered a specifically high amount of hype, specifically after the Monak Patel-led side defeated Pakistan in a super-over thriller on top of a match-winning performance by Indian-origin players in the side like pacer Saurabh Netravalkar. Additionally, Corey Anderson has spent a considerable amount of time playing in India, in the IPL. His IPL career has seen the New Zealand-origin all-rounder play alongside the likes of Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and then later with Virat Kohli in RCB.
USA vs IND, T20 World Cup: Preview
Speaking to Star Sports, Anderson reflected on his time with Bumrah in MI and how he has enjoyed watching the India pacer perform through the years.
“I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Bumrah. I think I was at Mumbai when he was first introduced to MI, and watching him develop from this raw natural talent to one of the best bowlers in the world has been amazing. It’s cool to see that progress throughout, because you see the things they talk about early in their careers, and how they gain experience,” Anderson said.
“To watch him reach his potential is awesome. We’re obviously going to come up against him, and he can do some serious damage. I think it’s going to be extremely exciting to face him as well.” Anderson added.
