Shardul Thakur undergoes foot surgery post IPL 2024, out for 3 months

[ad_1]

Team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur has successfully undergone a foot surgery on Wednesday, 12 June and is expected to be out of competitive cricket for at least three months. The 32-year-old cricketer shared a post-surgery photo on his Instagram page with the caption, “Operated successfully.”

This is Thakur’s second foot surgery, the first being five years ago in 2019. The injury recurred during the South Africa tour earlier this year. Despite the setback, Thakur played well in the Ranji Trophy last season, playing a pivotal role in helping Mumbai win its 42nd title. He has requested the BCCI for longer breaks between matches to ensure adequate recovery and preparation time for the players.

Ranji Trophy: Shardul Thakur calls schedule unsustainable

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, Thakur played for CSK, but his performance was below par, managing only five wickets in nine outings at an economy rate of 9.75.

As for his comeback, while there is no official word, sources familiar with the situation feel that it will take around three months for Thakur to get back to training. Hence, he could possibly be back before or right in time for the upcoming domestic season.

With three months to recover and regain form, he could potentially make a strong comeback just in time for the Australia vs India Test series. Thakur’s versatility as both a middle-order batsman and a useful medium-pace bowler makes him a key asset for the team. Fans and team members alike will be hopeful that he returns stronger and more resilient.
