SA vs BAN: Watch – Bangladesh fans celebrate Soumya Sarkar’s axing in epic fashion at toss, Najmul Hossain Shanto perplexed

Bangladesh are taking on South Africa in their second game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The game is taking place on Monday (June 10) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

The Bangla Tigers began their campaign with a hard-fought thrilling win over Sri Lanka last week. After restricting Sri Lanka to a modest total of 124 for 9, Bangladesh were reeling at 99 for 5 and were in danger of throwing away the game. However, veteran allrounder Mahmudullah played an unbeaten knock of 16 runs to take his team home.

Even though teams don’t really tinker with their winning combinations, Bangladesh have decided otherwise. They have made one change to the playing eleven that played against Sri Lanka. Jaker Ali has replaced struggling Soumya Sarkar in the team.

And as captain Najmul Hossain Shanto announced the decision at the toss, the Bangladesh fans responded with a huge cheer. Sarkar has been struggling with the bat in recent times and the fans made their feelings absolutely clear when they heard that he is not playing against the Proteas. In his last four T20 innings including the warm-up game, Sarkar has been out for a duck thrice.

“I wanted to bowl, so happy to bowl first. We have one change, Soumya Sarkar not playing, Jaker Ali comes in. We feel good to see the crowds come out here and support us.

“(On Sri Lanka win) It was an important win, the boys have done a lot of hard work and hopefully we can do something special today. We have been struggling with a leggie, finally we have got one who takes wickets. All the bowlers have been performing really well,” said Shanto.

Watch the fans’ reaction to Soumya Sarkar’s axing:

Meanwhile, South Africa have won the toss and opted to bat first. The Proteas have won their first two games and a win against Bangladesh would make them the first team to qualify for the Super 8s.
