Rohit Sharma reveals his ‘biggest challenge’ as India captain

There is absolutely no denying that Rohit Sharma is a very popular captain among his teammates. Time and again, one has heard the India players heaping praise on Rohit Sharma for the way he supports them as a captain.

Not only the senior players but the junior players have also praised the way Rohit Sharma has led the team. And Rohit Sharma’s recent remarks on his captaincy process have made it crystal clear why he is adored so much by his teammates. 

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the India captain opened up on his thought process as a captain. Speaking to Star Sports, the veteran batsman started by pointing out that handling different kinds of people is the biggest challenge for a captain. He further stated that he makes sure to give each and every player importance to ensure that they do not feel left out.

“The biggest challenge for a captain is to handle different kinds of people. The most important thing I have learned is that it is necessary to give importance to everyone because everyone should feel that they are a part of this team and that they are important,” said Rohit Sharma.

Speaking further, Rohit Sharma explained how he prepares himself for a match as a batsman as well as a captain. Rohit Sharma has been one of the best batters in the world for more than a decade now and explained just how meticulously he prepares for a game.

“As a captain and as a player, I need to prepare in both departments. For me, it is very important to ensure that my preparation includes everything, I need to see and understand about the opposition and the ground.

“I personally go and check everything. I spend a lot of time in the meeting room. It is crucial for me to understand all these things so that if any situation arises on the field, I should be ready with the answer,” said Rohit Sharma.

Rohit will now be setting his sights on the coveted T20 World Cup title. He has already won the trophy as a player and will be desperate to do it as a captain this year. Last year, he failed to lead India to glory in the ODI World Cup and will be looking to make amends in the upcoming tournament. India are scheduled to open their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.
