Marcus Rashford to take time off from social media: Plan to rest and reset mentally

[ad_1]

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has decided to take time off social media. Rashford tweeted out his decision late on Monday night and said that he needed to reset mentally. It has been a tough season for the footballer who was not able to help United finish in the top 4.

In fact United finished 8th in the Premier League which put manager Erik ten Hag’s job under threat. The club however, ended their season on a high, beating Manchester City in the FA Cup Final.

“It’s time to come off Socials for a few weeks. I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively. Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period. To the ones that didn’t just remember at United, we always stick together,”

It is expected that Rashford’s decision comes after he was snubbed from England’s Euro 2024 squad. The forward was the most high-profile omission as England manager Gareth Southgate named his provisional Euro 2024 squad on Tuesday while there was also no place for experienced midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Several uncapped players — Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton — did make the provisional list of 33.

“Everybody has a chance,” Southgate told reporters.

Southgate will cut his squad to 26 by the June 7 deadline.

The exclusion of Rashford and former Liverpool midfielder Henderson were the big surprises given the loyalty Southgate has shown them and their roles in previous tournament runs.

Rashford, 26, has earned 60 caps and scored 17 goals, including three at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but has struggled for form this season with only seven Premier League goals for Manchester United.

“These are difficult calls. With Marcus I just feel other players in that area have had better seasons. It’s as simple as that,” Southgate said.

“This has been as complicated a group as I can remember picking.”
