The first batch of Indian players, including captain Rohit Sharma, landed in New York to begin their preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in June. This group mostly consists of players who were knocked out before the IPL playoffs.
The second batch, including Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson, will soon join the Indian contingent. Indian batting icon Virat Kohli is expected to extend his break a bit longer, resulting in him missing India’s only warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1.

Captained by seasoned opener Rohit Sharma, India will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a match against Ireland in New York on June 5. In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022, eventual champions England ended India’s run with a crushing 10-wicket defeat in the semifinal. The last time India won a T20 World Cup trophy was under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2007.
The 20 teams participating in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 tournament have been divided into four groups. Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8 stage.
After the Super 8 stage, in the first semi-final, the top team in the points table will face the fourth-placed team, while in the second semi-final, the second-placed team will face the third-placed team. The winners of both semi-finals will then compete in the World Cup final on June 29.
