IND vs USA: Revealed – Why is Monank Patel not playing today’s T20 World Cup 2024 match and who has replaced him?

High-flying USA will be eyeing a historic win when they lock horns against Team India in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The game is scheduled to be played on Wednesday (June 12) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

The co-hosts are on the verge of qualifying for the Super 8s after winning their first two games. They started the competition by chasing down 195 against Canada. In their next game, the USA beat Pakistan to leave the cricketing world stunned and bolstered their chances of making it to the Super 8s. With two wins from two, the USA need just one more point from the remaining two games to advance to the next stage.

While a win against Team India is highly unlikely, the USA will definitely be fancying their chances because of the way they have performed in recent times. Their task, however, has become tougher as they will have to do it without their inspirational captain Monank Patel.

No Monank Patel for USA:

The wicketkeeper-batsman is missing the game against India due to a niggle. He has been replaced by Aaron Jones as the captain for the game against the Men in Blue. Speaking at the toss, Jones revealed the reason behind Monank Patel’s absence and also said that his teammate would be returning to action soon. Shayan Jahangir has replaced Monank Patel in the USA playing XI.

“We would have bowled first as well, there’s some help for the bowlers early. He’s (Monank Patel) having a niggle and should be back quickly. It should be a good game and we’re looking to play well. The camp is very positive, just looking to play some good cricket. Shayan Jahangir replaces Monank and Shadley is in for Nosthush,” said Jones after losing the toss.

Missing Monank Patel will be a huge blow for the USA. Their captain led from the very front in their last game against Pakistan. He scored a fine fifty against Pakistan’s formidable bowling lineup to give his team a solid start. Patel, who played age-level cricket in India, would have loved to play in the historic game as well. The game is the first-ever international match between India and USA across formats.
